Latest News Update

Here is all the latest news update including all the gossip on the Royal Couple, Prince Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, as well as the update on Brexit, and on Donald Trump’s speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Ivor Bundock, The Ballie Traveller, shares his views on all this as well as a documentary he recently watched on corruption of Isobel Dos Santos, the daughter of the former president of Angola. Here’s what you need to know.

Angola The Reality

Latest News Update: Harry and Meghan out, Brexit back in.

After a rather tumultuous few days for the Prince and his wife, His Royal Highness now stands for Harry’s Really Happy. Not quite the outcome that the restless couple had envisaged, but while Dad still holds the purse strings, they’re not going to be quite as independent as they’d hoped.

Not a problem I’m sure, when there are millions of young English couples that would be happy to be bankrolled well into their advancing years by their parents. The happy couple have for now settled in Canada.

Life Moves On.

With only ten days to go until the UK / EU divorce becomes final, the current debate centres around whether there should be the joyous ringing of church bells at midnight on the 31st.

Big Ben Bong Crowdfund

Boris thought it was a grand idea to crowdfund a Big Ben Bong as he called it to herald in the new era. By last Friday, £220,000 had already been raised, but now won’t be used due to much squealing from both sides of the House of Commons. The 48% remaining camp probably had no desire to hear the bong either. Will that £220,000 now be paid back to the funders, or sent to the NHS to cover the first instalment of Boris’s £350 Million per week lie.

Of course, as many of us know, divorce doesn’t come cheap. With effect from February, the UK will be paying alimony or maintenance, to the tune of £33 Billion to the EU. Is there a two way benefit? Who knows? Like any aggrieved parent who feels that they are paying more maintenance than their fair share, this must stick in Boris’s craw.

Boris 350M to NHS

Even with his huge majority, the prime minister seems to be warding off opponents and juggling political balls at a furious rate. One of them being the “extremely slow paced” High Speed 2 (HS2), which is a planned high-speed rail project in the UK. The project was initially budgeted at £52 Billion, the cost of which is expected to double to £106 Billion. That’s three years worth of alimony. He needs to make a decision.

The House of Lords have also put the brakes on the government’s EU documentation policy. EU citizens, with the right to remain will not be given physical documentation proof. This is to prevent “ID creep”.

To explain: The British public are paranoid about having to carry ID cards, which most of the citizens of the world already use. The irony: Doctors registration, recruiters, employers, banks and anywhere else that comes with a dose of red tape all present their first question to you as you walk through the door. Please may I see your ID? A passport or driving licence usually suffices, but without it, everything comes to a dead stop. Enough said. Good luck Mr. Prime Minister.

Trumpets and Fanfare

In the latest news update, if you heard excessively loud trumpet blowing and fanfare this week, it was possibly Donald Trump’s speech at the World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland. Amazingly, 90% of his presidential achievements since arriving in office are the greatest ever in the history of America, or in fact in the history of mankind. Amongst other things, America now has the cleanest air and drinking water in the entire world, the cleanest methods of extracting coal, (yes, that’s what he said) and numerous other firsts.

He did keep harping on about unfair trade deals. Surely if China is selling more goods to America than it’s buying, why is that China’s fault? America simply needs to employ more Chinese salesman to sell American goods back to China. They’re clearly good at their job.

I assume it won’t be long before we see Trump’s autobiography. It’s likely to be found in the fiction section.

Africa Corruption Inc.

It was interesting watching the BBC Panorama programme, highlighting the great skill of Isobel Dos Santos, the 46 year old daughter of the former president of Angola, on extracting billions of dollars from the Angolan economy and siphoning it through her numerous businesses, directly to her bank account. Most of the loot resulted from deals involving oil, diamonds and other natural resources.

Isobel Dos Santos

This isn’t exactly a latest news update, but this is: owning expensive properties in central London she claims England is now her home. Funny that she’s suddenly moved her residence to the UAE. Meanwhile, the auditors, Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC) have terminated their relationship with Dos Santos. Initially flattered I’m sure, for being appointed by Africa’s wealthiest woman. They’re now performing a spectacular tap dance, ensuring that nothing splashes on to them.

It pays to be an African politician, or a family member of one. History continues to repeat itself time after time. South Africa’s Jacob Zuma springs to mind. The man who so many times has asked for his day in court to prove his innocence, regularly hands the judge doctors notes claiming to be too ill to attend. Oh dear. How did we forget Robert Mugabe? So it goes on.

That is all for this batch of latest news update. Want more news update? Then keep coming back to stay updated in all that is happening around the world with The Ballie Traveller.
