The growing number of hospitalizations related to vaping and using e-cigarettes are causing growing concerns for a lot of people as well as governments. Taking a page out of USA’s book of banning flavored vapors and Ecigarettes, the Indian Government has enacted a complete E-Cigarettes Ban.
In a press conference on September 18, 2019, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman – the same woman who also blamed millennials for the decline in the automotive sector – announced the ecigarettes ban. The ban condemns the use of e-cigarettes claiming people use them to as a “style statement” adding that the “habit” of vaping “seems cool”.
“These novel products come with attractive appearances and multiple flavors; their use has increased exponentially and has acquired epidemic proportions in developed countries, especially among youth and children,” Sitharaman said at the briefing. “It is believed that there are more than 400 brands (of e-cigarettes), none of which is manufactured yet in India. And they come in over 150 flavors.”
*(Please note the following point – “none of which is manufactured yet in India”)
Citing data that has largely been derived from ‘US experience’ with no hospitalizations reported in India, she claimed that vaping was a BAD BAD habit.
However, there is data for vaping from the Indian standpoint.
According to the market research firm Euromonitor International, the Indian Vaping Marketing is valued at approximately $15.6 million, and expected to grow at an annual rate of 60% until 2020.
People are also calling the government a hypocrite for banning e-cigarettes, while not banning normal cigarettes or tobacco products since they hold shares in India’s two of the biggest tobacco companies – ITC and VST Industries.

Health vs Wealth, the age old debate
The #ecigarettes ban would've gone differently if Indian tobacco companies owned large stakes in e-cig companies 🤷🏾♀️

#ecigarettes banned. Looks like a move to protect the health of tobacco giants more than protecting our health. If you really care that much ban cigarettes in entirety.

Everyone has hopped on the #ecigarettes Ban-dwagon but how many know real facts? Regulation is the answer. Prohibition will simply create a black market. I quit smoking after a 15-year long addiction. The only tobacco harm reduction tool that worked for me was #ECigarettes. I quit that too after 45 days. If health is a concern, then let's ban ALL tobacco products. They are more harmful than vaping! #ECigarettesBan

Jokes aside, the research on vaping is on-going and there is still inconclusive data as to what is causing the hospitalizations in the US.
A lot of ex-smokers are crediting e-cigarettes with saving their lives and are not happy with the fact that they are left with zero alternative to smoking.
